Dyson Fan

Wow this is crazy cool. Pretty expensive but if you've got baby fingers running around the house it may just be worth it. Check it out.

Edmonton Storm

I stumbled upon a gallery of pictures people have been sending in from the aftermath of Edmonton's storm Saturday night here. Craziness. I read that Environment Canada measured the wind at 134km's east of the city from a tower that was snapped in half just after recording. That speed is rated the same as an F1 tornado. Yikes.

40th Anniversary

40 years have passed since the launch of Apollo 11 proving how difficult and expensive space exploration really is. We haven't really accomplished too much since that exciting day although yesterday we set a record for the most people in space at one time. A total of 13 are currently orbiting our earth. I am still completely fascinated by it though...and I suppose I'll always be intrigued when looking at our night sky.

District 9

What's this? Another sci-fi coming out??? Oh my goodness...this is a bit of overload for me. lol

Pandorum

I just saw this preview on TV and cannot wait to see it in the theatre. I'm a huge sci-fi fan so this is right up my alley. :-P

Commercial

This is by far my favorite commercial on TV right now. Always puts a smile on my face...no matter how many times I see it. Love the trailer on the back of the van too. LMAO.

Blow Away

Can't wait for the release of their second CD called Bomb in a Birdcage. This group has the most plays on my Zune. 838 to be exact. Yikes...I think I do like. *s*

Saddened

I'm in shock like so many people are today at the loss of Michael Jackson. I was a huge fan as a teen and have followed his troubled life through the years. I've always been a fan of his music. It started with the song "Don't Stop Til' You Get Enough". I also remember when the Thriller video was to air for the first time live on TV. I ran all the way home from school just in time for it to start. I sat on the coffee table with my eyes rivited to the set. My heart pounding. It's a memory I still cherish today.

Michael had so many great songs that it's hard to pick just one. This one stood out in my mind when I heard the news.

Farewell Michael. May inner peace finally be with you.

What you see!

Walking home on this beautiful day I saw the most bizarre thing. I was heading down the stairs by the hill I live by when I noticed a woman running up the stairs. Not a big deal...there are always fitness buffs working out in the area, especially on a beautiful day like this. This fitness buff however was a bit different. Not only was she running up the zillion stairs...she was doing doing a hula hoop at the same time...while holding two spare hula hoops over her head. I assume that she can get all three going but just watching her do it with one was tiring enough. I had to get outta there so missed all 3 going. So ya...what you see in da city!

PS: I totally suck at Hula Hooping. I can hardly pass the one on Wii Fit!!! lol

Crazy Landing Strip

Sometimes you just have to marvel at technology. To me this is just insane, but I guess when you don't have enough dirt to make a safe landing...you make your own! Amazing what a little thought, some money and sweat can do. *s*

I Survived a Japanese Game Show

I saw this last week and it's totally crazy. Part reality tv, part game show = cracked.

Suvivor

I survived another On Call weekend shift relatively unscathed. Some late night calls made me sleepy but overall it was ok. I really need to get brave and venture OUT though. Being home bound can make one a little stir crazy!!! Ok ok...I'm generally crazy anyway but when you're stuck in one tends to go a bit more mad. *s*

Say yay to sunshine!!!

Jaywalking is Expensive

Here is my comment for an article in the Edmonton Journal about Police ticketing pedestrians for jaywalking.

Teddy
I walk to work and jaywalk everyday across two not so busy streets downtown. I look both ways TWICE and cross at my own risk. I don't take chances and I'll wait till all is quiet. Getting a ticket for $250 seems a tad bit on the crazy side to me. For drivers out there...I am also a driver...and when operating my vehicle it is up to me to be on the lookout at all times, not just at a crossing. Things happen...you have to be alert and in control and you must take EXTRA care at crossings. Being nonchalant and thinking nothing will ever happen is so not worth the consequences. So ya...Big Boo to hefty jaywalking tickets.

Leaving The Nest

Well the geese finally left the nest on the live cam I was watching. The five eggs were hatched and everyone made it safe and sound to the water. I actually saw the babies leave the nest live. Just got lucky I guess.

Check out the short video compilation.

Now I'm following some live eagle cams! Can't get enough of my bird watching apparently. *s*

Weather

Apparently I didn't get the memo that there would be snow and crazy cold wind happening today. Downtown gets a little crazy with the wind like tunnel thing happening.

Anyway I am so done with winter already...want nothing but warmth and sunshine from tomorrow forward. Just so you know.

Calgary truck driver found guilty in deadly crash

I first blogged about this on Dec. 9, 2007...now so long after that tragic incident he is finally found guilty. Of course, sentencing won't happen for awhile yet...it never does. I don't understand why the judicial system takes so long but I guess everyone deserves a fair trial. I can't say that I am happy about all this. 5 people are still gone and now this man's family and friends will go through sadness too, but our society must stop allowing drinking and driving to go so lightly punished. We need to have serious consequences for driving under the influence...because there are SERIOUS consequences if we continue to allow needless deaths and tragedy to continue. To me it is unacceptable and makes no sense to me in our so called civilized society.

Edmonton Journal report.

100 Best Novels

I ran through both lists and these are the only ones I have read...or at least that I can remember. How many have you read?

4 books out of two lists??? Hmm...I could probably scout out a decent book out of the Readers List. Time to crack open a new book and smell the pages...ya...that's what I do.

Now, if I could add what movies I saw in these lists there would be quite a few. *s* Guess that's a different website eh?

1984 by George Orwell (in school)
LORD OF THE FLIES by William Golding (in school)
THE HITCHHIKER'S GUIDE TO THE GALAXY by Douglas Adams
ENDER'S GAME by Orson Scott Card

Out and About

Ahh the mighty river...or is that the muddy river???
She's an old girl. *s*
I frequent this area on my lunch break. You can find me on the bench or the stairs in the summer.
Another favorite spot at lunch time. The building I work in is white with green windows back there.
The new Icon Tower finished recently. They are working on Tower number two now.
This is in downtown Edmonton if you can imagine!
Doesn't get much better than this!
Can't wait for the trees to fill in. *s*
Yes, this is the company I work for but this isn't my building. Mine is an old one beside it.
Love these stumps!
A very friendly critter came to say hi...and pillage for food!
I like this bag but at $70 I just can't justify it.
The new Gallery of Alberta being constructed.

These were just random shots taken with my cell phone over the past numerous weeks.

Webcam: Canada goose nest near Edmonton

Not quite as exciting as the Eagle cam I kept an eye on a few years ago in BC but hey...we ARE in Edmonton! I put the link on the right side of my blog for future snooping.

Photofunia

Hilarious AND easy as pie! Be sure to check out Photofunia's website. Two clicks and two spare minutes will have you laughing at yourself in no time. Well, unless you upload pictures of your brother instead. *s*

I've decided I make one scary looking pirate. **Note to self: Cancel Halloween costume for next years banquet**

Happy Earth Day!

Disney Nature released their movie "Earth" today. I've seen a lot of trailers on The Discovery Channel and National Geographic lately. I'm looking forward to seeing this one. Sure it may be a little sugar coated as it is Disney that has it's paw print on it but I'm sure it will still look breathtaking on the big screen. Can't wait.

Peapod

Probably not quite ready for our North American roads but I can see this little guy taking off in other countries. We'll have to change our mentality about commuting here just yet. Can't see someone sitting in this at the lights beside a Hummer. Although this doesn't look much different from a Smart car because it's all electric I doubt it would have much power. Basically just something to run to the store or do a few quick errands.

Damn cute though if you ask me. *s*

Send Your Name To Mars!

It's the geek in me. What can I say? If you've got kids this would be great...you can even print out a certificate for them once you've completed it! Check out Nasa's website. I know you secretly want to be a part of history too! :-P

Lifesize- A fine frenzy

Another song from my favorite artist right now. I think the two following lines in the song are so true.

Larger than lifesize we become
Great in the eyes of someone

Even when we don't deserve it.

Random Thoughts

In our darkest hour, who will save us amidst a sea of tortured minds?
Are we fools to think that someone or some "thing" will ever come to free us from our crippling bondage?
As days draw closer to darkness, so too do the hopes and dreams of many wounded souls.

Hover Dogs

I want one!!! Just think...you can let them out in the rain and they won't leave muddy paw prints on your hardwood floors! Ingenious. *s*

Coleco

Holy Flashback Batman!!! My brother and I used to have these as kids. Oh what I'd do for one of those to display and play proudly on my desk at work!!! It's the geek in me...I'll admit it. Check out more of Coleco's Museum here.

Spring is in the air

Among other things. These sneakers have been up there all winter. I see them when I walk home from work...just hanging out. *s* Today is a beautiful day. It's 14c, sunny and I can hardly believe it. Let's fast forward to summer!!!

Masks

We all do it. Put one of our masks on to face the day, the week...the moment. I have many flavours of masks but today I am too tired to pull one out. Today I don't wear a mask.

Will you see me as you pass by on the crowded street? Will you see me from your car as we're stopped for a red light? Will you see me in line at the grocery store?

And if you do see me. Will you say anything...or just hold your mask tighter to your face?

Darkness

Today the darkness closes in on me.
I can feel it's coolness brush sharply across my face.
I struggle painfully with my clothing to give me warmth.
As I stand there, I can see my breath in the air in the little light that's left.
It won't be long now until there's nothing but blackness I think to myself.
I scan the darkness one last time.
I'm alone but I know it won't be for long.
He will be joining me soon.
