Death By Jello Is Highly Unlikely

That is a line from the movie "The Prize Winner of Defiance, Ohio". Quite the title for a movie but don't let that stop you from renting this one. It kept my attention and I'm sick so that's saying something. The movie came out in 2005 and is actually based on the real life of Evelyn Ryan. She was a homemaker that helped raise her very large family by entering contests. With the lead roles going to Julianne Moore and Woody Harrelson I'm surprised I hadn't heard of it before. Then again, I usually gravitate to the Sci-Fi, Action and Thriller genres and not the "warm and fuzzy" section. *s* This is a very well done film and worth a look.

Always A Better Deal

So I recently purchased my 8gb usb thumb drive and I'm extremely happy with it...and the fact that I only had to part with 30 bucks. Well, Future Shop has even a BETTER deal on this week. You can get this Kingston 8gb one for only $19.99. That is a FANTASTIC deal! So if you're in need of one you should really scoop this one up. Even if you don't have a Future Shop nearby you can always order this stuff online. So there are no excuses! Get on it!!!

Sick: A Four Letter Word

What weekend is this? Right, it's the LONG weekend and I am sicker than a dog. So I am NOT a happy camper right now and I've mumbled a few four letter words quietly under my breathe these past two days. So now, I must wait for this nonsense to go through it's cycle. I should be back to normal by let's estimate now...8am Tuesday morning. *sigh*

Hinterland Who's Who

I had my head turned from the television when I heard a sound I hadn't heard in a very long time. Hinterland Who's Who little tune chimed as I turned to face the TV. My heart instantly smiled as I watched a NEW version of the popular commercials of my childhood. I had no idea these were back on the air. I didn't realize how much I missed them. This is classic TV ladies and gentlemen. It really doesn't get any better than this.

Click on the website to hear that oh so famous tune! Doesn't it bring back memories???

On Call Update

My On Call shift went relatively painlessly last night. I was not stressed at all about it like I would normally be with such a new thing. I have to say, that was a very nice change...to just be able to not worry about things and take stuff as they come. I have two more nights to go and I am hoping they go as well as last night did. That would be a nice ease into it.

On a side note. I think that troubleshooting computer issues in your pajamas should be an Olympic Sport!

Big Brother Overdose

What does one do when you're on call? Why, you catch up on the million episodes of Big Brother that have been recorded by your PVR of course. Talk about being behind in my reality tv fix. I think there were 10 episodes there. I've made it through a few tonight...four so far i think. It definitely helps when you don't have to watch the commercials but it is very apparent there sure are alot of ads on television nowadays. It wouldn't be bad if the commercials had a great "entertainment" value but sadly this is not the case 99% of the time. Usually the only time you are going to see great commercials is during the Superbowl. Speaking of the NFL...I cannot wait for the start of the Seattle Seahawks season next week. WOO HOO!!! Yup, addicted to reality tv AND the NFL. *s*

The Deadliest Catch

The last episode of the season is over tonight. They are finished with the crabbing for this year and they're all getting together to shoot the shit over some brewski's at the pub. I really love this show and I'm sad it's going to be over. Looking forward to next season already!

Long Live The Discovery Channel!

Mail Call? No...On Call

So I have my first On Call shift tonight and I've been on the job for 2 months and 3 days. I'm a bit nervous being the ONLY one to support the clients but overall I am just gonna wing it. You know, my usual. There is some decent compensation for being On Call. You get paid a bit of money, you start earlier on your regular shift and leave earlier as well. The best part of being On Call though is getting “time off” in lieu of time worked. Time off is a precious commodity in my books! So anyway, I have my fingers crossed for a semi quiet evening. We'll see what transpires for me.

HP 8GB Flash Drive

I picked this little guy up on the weekend at Best Buy. For $29 I just couldn't resist. I've been carrying my old 512mb one around for a few years now. It worked well but I definitely ran into times where I needed more room to save a file...or a movie. *s* This new flash drive is a little bit longer than my previous one but it is very slim. It fits nicely in my front pocket which is where I carry it most of the time. Yes, it's the geek in me.

FotoFlexer

I found this VERY powerful and fun online photo editing program and I'm extremely pleased with it. Bookmarked it right away and you should too! I didn't have to join anything to play around with some photos which is a pretty nice thing nowadays. I just uploaded a photo from my computer and saved it to my computer when I was finshed playin'. Pretty simple interface and holy shit are there alot of tweaks you can do to your photos! You can also grab pictures from Facebook and My Space for example and post them back after you're done. Nice little option and I'm sure I will be checking that out at some point. *s*

Be sure to check it out!

Smiles

Yipee! The HTC Diamond is available for purchase at Telus. Now it's time to really make a decision. Oh whatever shall I do???

Inflation is for the birds

Edmonton Oiler mini pack tickets have gone up substantially in cost this year. That so totally sucks I just don't even know what to say. Why do our wages go up at a snails pace while every other day you seem to notice that the price of "something" has gone up again??? *sigh*

Nim's Island

I saw this movie recently and I was actually surprised at how much I liked it. I am not a real fan of kid based movies but this one was a gem that stood out. I absolutely LOVED Jodie Foster's character and of course she pulled it off very well. That's the sign of a true actor. She can give you an amazing performance in a drama and then act like a complete idiot in this film. The film left me with the warm fuzzies. I'm giving this movie two thumbs up and may just have to buy it and add it to my collection. If you haven't seen it...go rent it!!!

Coldplay - Viva La Vida

In my books this is a must have CD by Coldplay. This song, the name of the album is one of my favorites. I also really like the song Lost. Why wouldn't it be a keeper??? It has a song named 42 on it. 42! We all know that's the answer To Life, The Universe and Everything! If you didn't know that...pick up a little known book by Douglas Adams. *s* Hope you enjoy the song.

Tecnical Difficulties

I have been trying to post videos from the You Tube site for the past while now. It worked fine in the past but for some reason the last few weeks would not post to my blog. Well it seems all of my previous attempts came through at once yesterday. *shrug*

Hopefully things will be back to normal.

F-15E Maximum Vertical Climb

I wonder how long one of these puppies would take to get to Hawaii???

LITTLE WONDERS - ROB THOMAS

"It’s the heart that really matters in the end".

Lazarus by Porcupine Tree

This is one of my all time favorite songs and I wanted to share it. I think it has one of the most profound lines in it. Well, at least I think it does. The line is "Moonlight is bleeding from out of your soul". I hope you enjoy the song.

One Of Those Days

Not only is it loud here on my day off...but my guitar was hung up on the wall and well...it's not anymore. The screw gave way I guess. *sigh* I feel sick...but I think that has more to do with the tar down on the street.

Late Night Work?

Ok, so I just took this and I know it's not the most interesting picture but I had to comment on it. These workers were here through the ENTIRE night preparing the roads for paving. I have never witnessed construction workers with this kind of shift. It struck me very odd. Were they noisy? Yes actually they were. Beep beep beep and loud crunching sounds as they ripped up the old pavement. I had the air conditioner going though so at least I didn't hear them when I went to bed but they were definitely there. So of course, because I have the day off here...they would be here making noise. So much for my semi peaceful java on the deck this morning. *sigh*

My Wish List

The HTC Touch Diamond

I so want one of these. Well ok, if you must know...my first choice would be an Iphone but unfortunately I have a contract with Telus and they don't offer them. *sigh* So, for now I shall stay with Telus. This Diamond is such a geek toy. I am still a bit undecided between this or a Blackberry of some sort. Time will tell. Still have to do much research.

Check out the HTC Touch Diamond. What a beauty.

The Apple Store

So I was at the Apple Store in West Edmonton Mall yesterday and I have to say I was pretty impressed with their setup. They had all their products nicely displayed. All of the laptops and computers had Internet access so you could get a feel for it. I actually logged into my Facebook and updated my profile status…just because I could. The Ipods had headphones so you could fully experience the music and videos that were on them. I played around with the Iphone a fair bit which also had Internet connectivity. It was connected to a docking station and when I took a picture using the phone it automatically sync’d with the computer. Very nice. I think this is great that there is so much interaction with the products. This is the way it was MEANT to be. It gives people the chance to get their hands on this stuff and play around with it before making such a big purchase. How many times do you go to Best Buy for example and pick up a device to see what it’s all about only to find that it’s deader than a door nail? I know it’s happened to me. Two thumbs up to Apple for getting this right. *s*

PS: The Apple Store is located right beside the Disney Store in West Edmonton Mall. Things that make you go hmm...

Sunday Morning

Living on the East side of the building has it's perks. Morning coffee on the deck with the sun lightly touching my face is one of my favorite things. However, not when the temperature on the deck reads 29c in the SHADE! I did manage to sit out there for a bit but it just got too hot for my liking. It looks like more cloud cover is coming in so the rest of the day shouldn't be as bad as it has been these last couple of days. Don't get me wrong. I love warm weather and seeing the sun but there is a point when it's just too hot and I'm too lazy to do anything. What's the point of having great weather if you can't really enjoy it? The Edmonton Folk Fest is on so I would have to say this heat is MUCH better than four days of rain though!

PS: Did anyone else catch that wicked thunderstorm last night? What a show!

Emergency Clinic in the wee hrs of the night to put your pet down. $255

If you want your pet's ashes after cremation that will run you another $150

If you would like a ceramic paw print in various colours that will be an additional $65

Thought Of The Day

Sometimes...I just don't know what to say. Life seems to leave me more and more confused. I honestly thought the older I got I would somehow know some of the answers. It is very apparent that I don't.

Day Two Without Jasper

I still have a hard time believing he's gone. Every time I go to pull out my computer chair to have a seat I expect him to be curled up and sleeping. Of course, he's not and it makes me a little sad all over again when I realize that. I know with time this pain will pass but for now...it is what it is. Squeegy doesn't seem overly different these past few days...ok...maybe a "tad" bit more cuddly than usual but that may be just my perception. I'm sure she is well aware that she's the only cat in the condo now and I'm pretty sure she's quite pleased with this "new" arrangement. She is also getting up there in age although I don't know exactly how old she is. She was already full grown when she stumbled upon the heated garage in the dead cold of winter. This December she will be approximately twelve. Knock on wood that I don't have to go through this weekend any time soon.

Jasper 1990 - 2008

We had to put Jasper down tonight. Having been through this before it sure doesn't get any easier. He didn't quite make his 18th Birthday. That would have happened on Aug. 21st.

Jasper, you were more like a dog than a cat and probably the most friendliest animal I have ever met. You will be greatly missed.

Price to Pay?

If one dances with the devil, does that mean they sacrifice their soul? Or is that soul just a little bit damaged?
