Edmonton Storm

I stumbled upon a gallery of pictures people have been sending in from the aftermath of Edmonton's storm Saturday night here. Craziness. I read that Environment Canada measured the wind at 134km's east of the city from a tower that was snapped in half just after recording. That speed is rated the same as an F1 tornado. Yikes.

I ran through both lists and these are the only ones I have read...or at least that I can remember. How many have you read?

4 books out of two lists??? Hmm...I could probably scout out a decent book out of the Readers List. Time to crack open a new book and smell the pages...ya...that's what I do.

Now, if I could add what movies I saw in these lists there would be quite a few. *s* Guess that's a different website eh?

Peapod

Probably not quite ready for our North American roads but I can see this little guy taking off in other countries. We'll have to change our mentality about commuting here just yet. Can't see someone sitting in this at the lights beside a Hummer. Although this doesn't look much different from a Smart car because it's all electric I doubt it would have much power. Basically just something to run to the store or do a few quick errands.

Damn cute though if you ask me. *s*

Twitter

So I am giving this Twitter a shot to see what all the fuss is about. It's always being talked about in the media lately so I finally gave in and signed up. Ok, so you can follow famous people and get into their minds a bit. I am currently following Ellen Degeneres and Alison Sudol the singer in one of my favorite groups, A Fine Frenzy. So far...I don't really get what all the fuss is about. I mean, I do update my Facebook status from my cell phone. Essentially, Twitter is just the profile status with nothing else. What can you tell the world in small chuncks? 140 characters or less no doubt. Time will tell if I lose interest or if I have just added another addiction to my collection of exploiting myself shamelessly to the world.

Last.fm

I've known about this music site for awhile now but just tonight I installed it as an add-on in my Firefox browser. Now I can easily type in an artist name and it starts playing instantly. I typed in Kansas and it played a song of theirs and continued to play artists "like" them. What a simple and great concept. I've been happily listening to some old 70's rock since!

You don't have to install it through your web browser if you don't want. You can do the same thing from the Last.fm website. This is one of those gems that you find on the Internet and wonder how you lived without it for so long. Make sure to check it out. You will NOT be disappointed.

Go Music!

A buddy from work showed me this site yesterday. A place to purchase music in MP3 format for dirt cheap! For example, the CD I recently blogged about by A Fine Frenzy. That CD is selling for a whopping $1.13 (American). Or you can purchase the songs individually for only 9 cents each! That my friends, is some GREAT savings! The site is in Russia so I'm sure that's why things are so cheap. I guess knowing that a friend has already purchased and downloaded songs and albums successfully puts my mind at ease a bit. Anyway, these deals are too cheap to pass up if you are one of the few people that buy their music legitimately. And who knows what kind of loophole there is on this site...but for now...it's working. Be sure to at least give it a look. There are lots of Cd's that are only selling for 89 cents. And I don't mean old obscure ones either!!!

Instructables

Here's a handy website I found in this month's PC World Magazine. It's named Instructables which is exactly what it is. Find instructions on how to do just about anything. Some useful and some not so useful. I tried a not so useful one but surprisingly did it with no issue. Usually origami doesn't go too well for me but this one is fairly simplistic. I did one with the instructions and then two after that on my own. Check out how I wasted 5 minutes of my life. *s*

Here's something that I should be building. A Guitar Stand for all those damn Wii Guitars around here!

National Do Not Call List

I finally got around to registering last night and I am here to say it was very painless. All you have to do is go to their website and enter in the phone number and enter in the characters they pop up and that's pretty much it. I registered my land line and my cell phone and after reading this post you should too. Honestly, it will take you under a minute!

You Send It

I know I have mentioned this web site before but it truly is worth another mention. You Send It allows you to send files of up to 2gb's in size to your friends and family. They will receive a link in an email to download the file. Yesterday a friend used it to send me a 17mb file because of course it was just a little too big to send through email. I had the file downloaded in just a minute. This is one VERY useful utility and I highly recommend you bookmark it! One other good thing is that you don't have to sign up to use it. If you plan on emailing alot of people though it might be a good idea as you can save email addresses so you don't have to enter them in all the time. Go ahead, you know you wanna try it!!!

PS: Want to send all your vacation pictures in one shot? Zip the folder the pictures are stored in and send it! The person receiving them will have all your pics in their original size...just be careful that you REALLY want to send ALL of those vacation pic's. *s*

New Facebook Look

So there is a new look in town over at Facebook. I don't know if I really like it but I'll give it a go I guess. It does give it a bit more up to date look and feel though. If you haven't already seen it...log into your account here.

Safari

I downloaded and installed Safari for Windows this morning.  That's Apple's web browser.  I just found out that it was available for XP and Vista so I thought I would give it a try.  I am currently running Mozilla Firefox and have steadily been impressed with it's plugin's and performance.  So, off to Safari.  The install was painless but because it was a new browser it took me some time to get things the way I like them.  I did notice a bit of an increase in speed.  It loaded the majority of the web pages quite quickly.  It is a simple looking web browser but I'm sure you can install themes to make it as pretty as you like.  It comes with an array of built in bookmarks which I found handy.  I don't know if Safari will end up being my default web browser but it's nice to have some different choices other than the notorious Internet Explorer.  Now, if I can just wean Red away from IE.  She's not one for change.  *s*
