Who doesn't love Mario?

Leave it to gaming companies to re-design old games and sell a ton of them.  Albeit this is the 25th Anniversary of Mario!  I think it's a great Christmas gift at that price.  Check it out!

I Survived a Japanese Game Show

I saw this last week and it's totally crazy. Part reality tv, part game show = cracked.

Coleco

Holy Flashback Batman!!! My brother and I used to have these as kids. Oh what I'd do for one of those to display and play proudly on my desk at work!!! It's the geek in me...I'll admit it. Check out more of Coleco's Museum here.

Boom Blox

I recently rented this game from Blockbuster's. I wanted to check it out because I wasn't too sure it would be all that fun from the video's I watched on it. Well, I was wrong. This puzzle adventure is alot of fun too! This game was developed by Steven Spielberg so I guess it's not surprising that my trusted IGN website gave it an impressive 8.1 rating. This game has alot of meat and potatoes for you to sink your teeth into. Great multi player modes for party fun make it a great choice. Again, if you like puzzle games this is a must add for your Wii collection. Putting this on my Wii wish list as we speak! *s*

Marble Mania

I've had this Wii game for a good while now but decided to pull it out again and have a go. This is not a flashy game by any means. No killing is involved but I dare you not to get sweaty palms with the stress of getting your marble through the maze after collecting all the jewels!!! I give this game a 10 out of 10 for playability. It's not a long game by any means but you will become addicted trying to get all the special green gems and obtaining gold cups with outstanding times. If this is not in your Wii collection I highly recommend you purchase it asap!!!

Space Invaders

Ah yes, Space Invaders. Not the kind that come hurtling to earth on the back of a meteor. No, this is the classic kind. Nintendo has launched Space Invaders: The Original Game on it's Virtual Console this week for a cool 800 points. That's roughly ten bucks with where our dollar is sitting at these days. Will I be downloading it? Possibly. My choices are not so much based on money or emotional attachment but instead on space itself. I am running out of "blocks" on my Wii. No blocks means I'll have to delete games before downloading new ones. Come on Nintendo...get on with your storage problem! You're going to lose sales from people like me if you don't!

Carcassonne

I finally got this board game. I played it awhile back and quite enjoyed it. Happened to see it at West Edmonton Mall on the weekend so I picked it up. It's not a mainstream board game but I do believe it's popularity is growing. It's a tile based game based on a medival landscape that is simple enough for a new player to catch on. A typical game takes about 45 minutes so you don't need to worry about pulling an all nighter with your friends! I can't wait to play it again!

Wii Rock Band

So last weekend we managed to get the long awaited Rock Band for the Nintendo Wii. Finally, I get to smash away at a pretty set of white drums. I am not very coordinated but I'm sure with a little bit of practice I'll be an average girl in medium mode. The game itself is a slimmed down version as there is no downloadable content you can get. The tour you do is very limited and reminds me alot of Guitar Hero's tour. What really has me steaming though is that our two Guitar Hero guitars are not compatible with Rock Band. So, that means if we want to add a fourth person in our group we have to buy yet ANOTHER guitar. That does not make me a happy girl whatsoever. Apparently, Activision, the maker of GH decided not to make it compatible with Harmonix for some stupid reason. One thing that did get a bit improved were the drums themselves. They have a better spring on the pedal and drums so that's decent. We'll see how long they last with me banging on them though. *s*

Note: To my neighbors I am going to apologize in advance for when I pick up the microphone and belt out a few tunes. It's gonna happen...and with the temperature these days...the patio door will be remaining open. lol

Dr. Mario Online RX

So yesterday I finally purchased Dr. Mario in the new Wii Ware section of my Nintendo Wii. Wii Ware is basically the same as downloading Virtual Games but they are new games just created or like Dr. Mario...have been a bit revamped. The Virtual Games are all the retro games you played and loved oh so many ions ago. We played head to head a bit and essentially it's the same as it's original predecessor. Kind of a Tetris spin off that I remember wasting many an hour with the Dr. and his damn pills! The controls are simplistic and we just used the wiimote turned sideways. For me this is the most comfortable way and reminds of the original controller quite a bit. The download took up 92 blocks on my hard drive. I believe I have 814 blocks still available so I will be able to download a few more games before having to purchase a second hard drive that I hope Nintendo is making for their system!!! So far I have 8 games downloaded onto the hard drive. Check my note in Facebook to see all the games we own so far. I didn't get a chance to play the newer game they have in Dr. Mario yet. It's called Virus Blaster and you use the wiimote as a pointer as per usual and move the pills that way. I'm sure I'll be giving that a go as well...but for the most part. It's all about the retro game. I love this game and I love Nintendo for bringing all these oldies but goodies back to life!

Board Games!

At Dell, the guys on my team seemed to have some type of board game going those last few months till close. Although I didn't play at work...I so wanted to. So I finally got a chance to play last night. I invited some peeps over and they brought some games. Now these games are not sold at Walmart or ToysRus. These types of games can be found more at a Hobby Shop or comic store. I am completely hooked! These are the ones I really liked and will probably be buying for my own collection. Carcassonne and Ticket to Ride. Very entertaining indeed and I even think that my gal will like them! Time will tell. *s* Anyone else interested in some different games? Contact me and I'll hook ya up! As a side note, the new coffee table turned out to be a GREAT games board.

PS: Of course, no games night would be complete with out some Wii involved. We just had to play some Mario Kart. I pretty much got owned. :-P

I Got A Wii Fit!

So I did the unthinkable today. I stood in line at Best Buy for 30 minutes in the rain waiting for them to open. Waiting to get my fat little paws on the new Wii Fit! I was successful in my mission. There were about 90 on hand and I'd say there were about 50 people in line. Now, here's something that was VERY apparent. This was not a hard core gamers line up. Instead about 90% of the people desperately wanting to get their hands on one were suburban mature women! I actually had to snicker to myself. Man, did Nintendo get it right. Quietly lurking in the background for the last few years...they have struck with vengeance in the market for consumers money! Albeit Xbox and Playstation have a very different following but one that really isn't growing. Nintendo has managed to tap into a market that has been untouched. From 6 year old kids to 75 year old grandpa's, everyone is playing, talking about and most importantly...buying everything Wii.

I played through everything once when I got home and yes, it got my heart rate up. That damn Yoga Tree pose on the box is insane. I'm sure I will improve as time goes by. I highly recommend this game if you need something to get you active and off the couch. Train everyday, set a goal and follow your progress. Wasn't I surprised when it showed me my weight! Don't worry, you can add a password if you are shy about letting everyone see such things.

Long live the Wii!

Storage Issues

Speaking of getting fit. Wii Fit will be launched tomorrow. I didn't pre-order (can't seem to bother with this for some reason) so time will tell if we have it sooner than later. If anyone knows me at all than you know that I am addicted to my Nintendo Wii. Since we got this thing we have accumulated quite a collection of games and accessories. It's getting to be a bit of a challenge storing all of this and still have the place look like a grown up lives here! With Wii Rock Band coming out in June, I am going to really have to think about where those damn drums are going to be stored!!! Our tiny one bedroom condo only has so many hiding places. Will that stop me? Hell no...I'll be happily slamming on those drums soon enough. *s* So far the bulk of Wii stuff fits into two drawers in the tv stand. I have the DDR mat and two guitar hero guitars elsewhere.

Medal of Honor: Heroes 2

Although I've been quite sick on my trip here in Kitimat I did happen to play a bit of our new game here. I used it with the Wii Zapper in the arcade mode which acts like a rail shooter type game. That's where the game does the actual moving for you. Just the kind of thing I like...just point and shoot some bad guys. If you like shooting things there is nothing wrong with this game. It's not exactly as "simple" as other rail shooters I've played. For example Ghost Squad is really just point and shoot. Medal of Honor gets you a bit more involved with the Nunchuk by making you utilize the zoom function for certain areas of the game. It's still fairly easy for people that just want to pick up a game and shoot stuff but you have to keep your eye on your health or you'll be starting over. I of course, had to start a few times but did manage to clear a few stages thus far. There is unlimited ammo in the arcade mode but I would imagine this is not the case if you were going through the adventure part of it. All in all, this is a good war game. I find the graphics pretty good as well for the Nintendo Wii. Two thumbs up.

Nintendo Wii Fit

I don't know about you but I can't wait for May 21st to come around so I can get my hands on this game. I'm a little embarrassed to admit that my excitement is almost as high for this game as it is for Wii Rock Band that's due out near the end of June. And I'm here to tell you that I am beyond happy with glee to get a hold of that one. *s* Nintendo just sent this link out in an email this week. Of course I had to check it out and for whatever reason took the survey. If you're bored go ahead and do it too.

Games Room

What's better than going to work? Going to work and getting to play games! Today I played a bit of Rock Band on Xbox and also Super Smash Bros. on the Wii. This week they have a games room set up. What you don't see in this picture is the 40 or so computers hooked up together playing Starcraft and I believe Quake. Although I'm not entirely sure about those two, as I don't play either of those types of games too often. I played one song on the drums and didn't do too terribly bad but I definitely do better on the guitar. Must be all those endless hours of practice in Guitar Hero. I cannot wait to play Rock Band in the comfort of my own living room. I don't need to break any one's eardrums while singing or failing miserably while playing the drums. Who knows what a little practice will do though. Only time will tell.
