Sunday Night Movies

We watched a couple of movies today.  I really enjoyed Unstoppable.  Just had that suspense thing going for me and I love Denzel so it was a gooder!  The second movie Dear Mr. Gacy was a bit dark and sad in a way.  At least for me anyway.  All in all two decent movies.  That doesn't happen all that often.

Managed to watch two movies yesterday and not one minute of NFL football?  How the heck did that happen???  LOL  Didn't kill me and I see my Seahawks took a kicking from a division team.  Oh well.

Movies

I watched a couple movies yesterday.  One not so bad...one not so good but I expected it with the title Moby Dick!  Buried was pretty suspenseful if you're into that kind of movie.

The Expendables

This movie is not...I repeat...NOT a chick flick.  This is 100% pure guy film!!!  I enjoyed it thoroughly. heh heh  I especially loved the sound of the big gun. :-P  If you want to see all the explosions on the big screen than go to the theatre.  I didn't feel I missed out on anything watching it on the TV but that may be just me.  If you've caught yourself watching too many soft movies lately.  Check out The Expendables.  Good for some great action, see some old actors and laugh a bit.

Powerful Movie

 I just watched The Stoning of Soraya M.  This is a must see film.  A grim reminder of the world we still live in today.  This is NOT a feel good movie but I highly recommend it.  There are two heroes that stand out in this movie.  First of course, Soraya.  Second, her aunt Zahra who refused to keep quiet.

Watch it.

Slumdog Millionaire

This is a must see movie. It's very well done. There's not too much more to say here. Watch it.

Milk

Just finished watching it. I cried like a baby at the end...still not quite right here. Do I feel that most people will react the same as I? Probably not. For myself it was much more personal. So thank you Harvey Milk. I just wanted to say, thank you.

I think the next movie I plug in to watch should have adorably cute kittens or pink elephants in it. *sigh* Enough crying for me already!!!

The Boy in the Striped Pajamas

I watched this show last night and found it to be very good although I did feel a bit queasy afterwards. I think that's quite normal seeing as how the movie is based on The Holocaust through the eyes of a child. As like many, I know a bit on the subject but last night I was left with a nagging thought. We know from history that the Germans thought that the Jewish people were evil (among other reasons) and therefore needed to be exterminated. What I was pondering last night though...was where this belief came into play? If it was only one man...which I doubt...had this belief...how did that come to be? What had happened in their childhood or upbringing to make them believe such a thing?

This morning I looked up The Holocaust on Wiki. I read the entire document. I didn't realize that Homosexuals were also sent to the camps. Not for getting caught in the act but rather for intent or character. On that Wiki page it breaks it down and gives estimates on the total number of victims. I still get chills about the sheer amount. I don't think there is ever a way that anyone that didn't go through that can truly understand it...but we can try...in the hopes that the greatest tragedy on this planet doesn't repeat itself.

On a final note there are two things that I fear on this planet...at this time.

Blindness

I watched this movie yesterday with a friend. I didn't really know what to expect from the previews but overall it was fairly good and kept my interest. However, I was not impressed with how many questions I was left with by the end of the movie. And not just one or two...I was left with MANY questions!!! Too many to walk away with that satisfied feeling when you've watched a well done movie. Oh well, I won't spoil it for those of you who have been eyeing it on the video shelf at Blockbusters.

PS: I think if I lost my sight in a matter of moments without warning there would be a tad bit more panic in my reaction to it. Like about 1000x more than what we witnessed in the movie. Just an observation. *s*

Changeling

I watched this movie on Shaw's Video on Demand this evening. What an unexpected gem albeit very frustrating movie.

I thought the movie was extremely well done. It was one woman's search for the truth that frustrated me...and will haunt me for awhile that is certain. The movie is a little on the long side but worth a watch in my books. Based on a true story that will no doubt make you want to pull your hair out at times.

Hats off to Angelina and Clint Eastwood for this one. Who needs Hollywood action films with explosions and wicked special effects anyway??? Well...ok...I do once in awhile. :-P

Untraceable

I watched this movie last night and I found it fairly entertaining. I wasn't expecting it to be as disturbing as it was though. It was a tad on the dark side. I was thinking it was going to be another cops and bad guys shoot em up thriller. I was wrong but I found myself glued to the television. It's nice to be pleasantly surprised by a movie nowadays. My expectations were not high at all but I felt extremely satisfied with this one...although I thought the end of the movie was a little to "abrupt". It's a good dark thriller...if you're into that sort of thing. Have a look.

Babylon A.D.

I knew this wasn't going to be a great movie when I went last night. It was even worse than I had anticipated. Having got to our seats with about 15 minutes to spare until showtime...well for a movie that was only on the start of it's 3rd week in theatre's...let's just say the 5 people that filled the seats at that time was a little more than surprising to me. It did however, fill up a bit...to maybe a quarter full. I couldn't help but wonder what show those stragglers were really trying to get into and it was sold out. The movie. Bad, ladies and gentlemen...really bad. The only parts that I thought were decent were the few fight scenes but the cameraman was so spastic that I swear they were shooting the scene while riding a mechanical bull. I actually laughed out loud in disbelief at one point. Right in the middle of this so called action flick I felt we were at "Breakfast at Tiffany's" (the tent scene). The scene was so out of context within the film that I just threw my arms up. There was one other notable. At different parts of the movie they would flash up coordinates of locations they were at. I had heard my hometown Kitimat made the big screen and yup...there it was...clear as this movie will go down in history like the sinking Titanic. I wonder how much Vin picked up for a paycheck on this puppy? Things that make you go hmm.

Do not go to this movie. Do not rent this movie. I am giving it two major thumbs down.

PS: The best line from the movie: "We're all gonna die in New York. Well, goodnight".

Death By Jello Is Highly Unlikely

That is a line from the movie "The Prize Winner of Defiance, Ohio". Quite the title for a movie but don't let that stop you from renting this one. It kept my attention and I'm sick so that's saying something. The movie came out in 2005 and is actually based on the real life of Evelyn Ryan. She was a homemaker that helped raise her very large family by entering contests. With the lead roles going to Julianne Moore and Woody Harrelson I'm surprised I hadn't heard of it before. Then again, I usually gravitate to the Sci-Fi, Action and Thriller genres and not the "warm and fuzzy" section. *s* This is a very well done film and worth a look.

Nim's Island

I saw this movie recently and I was actually surprised at how much I liked it. I am not a real fan of kid based movies but this one was a gem that stood out. I absolutely LOVED Jodie Foster's character and of course she pulled it off very well. That's the sign of a true actor. She can give you an amazing performance in a drama and then act like a complete idiot in this film. The film left me with the warm fuzzies. I'm giving this movie two thumbs up and may just have to buy it and add it to my collection. If you haven't seen it...go rent it!!!

Journey To The Center Of The Earth

I saw this movie last night but didn't realize before going that it was a 3d movie. If I had known I may not have gone to it. I get queasy with that kind of stuff. Sure enough I felt a little sea sick on the way out but it seemed to pass faster than usual. Even though this was a fairly cheesy kid based movie I actually enjoyed it just for the adventure. What can I say? It's the geek in me. One part of the movie where they were in mine carts racing down the tracks, looked very Indiana Jonesish to me but it also reminded me of a simulator ride I once went on/in...and yes...got sea sick. *s* If you're not interested in seeing a 3d movie than I would just recommend waiting for it on DVD. As always, I am left wanting MORE things popping out towards me as it is a very cool effect. This must be a very time consuming or expensive process for there not to be tons more. Oh well, I guess I will just have to enjoy "life" to get that 3d feel. :-P

Iron Man

Went to this movie last night and really enjoyed all it had to offer. It's not often that the leap from comic books to cinema gets pulled off so well. I think X-Men and Batman did a good job but even though I am a huge Spiderman fan...I'm not too fond of the movies. Just thought they were a little slow. Anyway, back to Iron Man. Some good action, special effects, cool toys and an underlying humor throughout the film made this a GREAT enjoyment for me. Two thumbs up and I know I will be purchasing the DVD when it comes out. One note, if you see the movie make sure to stay for the credits. There is something of "interest" at the end. *s*

For the guy in the row behind me that was so adamant to his friends that he knew so much. Iron Man, Spiderman and The Hulk were indeed Marvel Comic Books. Batman, Superman and Wonder Woman on the other hand are from DC Comics. GET your comic knowledge straight. Fans of both would be quite upset that you thought all of these were under the same umbrella. Oh, and the comic creator genius for Marvel that you couldn't remember the name of...his name is Stan Lee! *Shaking my head* There...my rant is done.

Stardust

Finally got a chance to watch this movie and I phreakin' loved it! I knew I would. It's based on one of my favorite book's, Stardust by Neil Gaiman. I believe he was also a part of making the movie as well. It's a fantasy movie filled with magic, spells and witches. I was extremely entertained by their underlying humor throughout the film and I especially liked Robert Di Niro's character "Captain Shakespeare". I found him quite fun. Overall this is a FEEL GOOD movie, a different kind of love story. A must watch for all who enjoy this genre of film!!!

Horton Hears A Who

Well I broke down and watched a kid's movie with Red. I know how much she loves these things. Me on the other hand...meh. Very rarely do I really enjoy these although sometimes I get a good chuckle here and there. This movie though did not do it for me on any level. The only part I actually liked was when the Mayor's son took that huge step to the Observatory. Will kids like this movie? Absolutely. Does it have a good message? Of course, it's Dr. Seuss. Just be warned as this one is definitely geared to kids and not towards adults like the Shrek series has been.

On a second note we used Winamp remote to watch this movie through our Wii Internet Channel. It streamed the movie wirelessly over the Internet from my computer. You have to love technology.

Snakes on a Plane

This was a very BAD movie.

Don't bother with this one...unless you've been locked down in a cellar for over a year...and by chance you find an old VHS player lodged behind a trap door...and it just happens to have a copy of this movie jammed up inside it. Then ya, push play. You'll enjoy it.

Lucky Number Slevin

I have to say that this was one of the best movies I've seen in a very long time. Right from the opening scene of Nick entering the area at the far end. The blue plastic chairs against the sterile white and grey background was breathtaking. This movie was so well done. I can't believe I hadn't seen it till now!!! I hadn't even really heard anything on it. What a gem of a movie. I highly recommend this to anyone that hasn't seen it.

One interesting note. For some reason our beautiful HD recording of this movie went all pixeley right at the end of the movie. WHAT??? How could this happen! I instantly went to youtube.com and typed in "end of Lucky Number Slevin" and Red and I were watching the last 5 minutes very happily. You have to love the Internet for everything good it has to offer. *s*
