Jaywalking is Expensive

Here is my comment for an article in the Edmonton Journal about Police ticketing pedestrians for jaywalking.

Teddy
I walk to work and jaywalk everyday across two not so busy streets downtown. I look both ways TWICE and cross at my own risk. I don't take chances and I'll wait till all is quiet. Getting a ticket for $250 seems a tad bit on the crazy side to me. For drivers out there...I am also a driver...and when operating my vehicle it is up to me to be on the lookout at all times, not just at a crossing. Things happen...you have to be alert and in control and you must take EXTRA care at crossings. Being nonchalant and thinking nothing will ever happen is so not worth the consequences. So ya...Big Boo to hefty jaywalking tickets.

Leaving The Nest

Well the geese finally left the nest on the live cam I was watching. The five eggs were hatched and everyone made it safe and sound to the water. I actually saw the babies leave the nest live. Just got lucky I guess.

Check out the short video compilation.

Now I'm following some live eagle cams! Can't get enough of my bird watching apparently. *s*

Weather

Apparently I didn't get the memo that there would be snow and crazy cold wind happening today. Downtown gets a little crazy with the wind like tunnel thing happening.

Anyway I am so done with winter already...want nothing but warmth and sunshine from tomorrow forward. Just so you know.

Calgary truck driver found guilty in deadly crash

I first blogged about this on Dec. 9, 2007...now so long after that tragic incident he is finally found guilty. Of course, sentencing won't happen for awhile yet...it never does. I don't understand why the judicial system takes so long but I guess everyone deserves a fair trial. I can't say that I am happy about all this. 5 people are still gone and now this man's family and friends will go through sadness too, but our society must stop allowing drinking and driving to go so lightly punished. We need to have serious consequences for driving under the influence...because there are SERIOUS consequences if we continue to allow needless deaths and tragedy to continue. To me it is unacceptable and makes no sense to me in our so called civilized society.

100 Best Novels

I ran through both lists and these are the only ones I have read...or at least that I can remember. How many have you read?

4 books out of two lists??? Hmm...I could probably scout out a decent book out of the Readers List. Time to crack open a new book and smell the pages...ya...that's what I do.

Now, if I could add what movies I saw in these lists there would be quite a few. *s* Guess that's a different website eh?

1984 by George Orwell (in school)
LORD OF THE FLIES by William Golding (in school)
THE HITCHHIKER'S GUIDE TO THE GALAXY by Douglas Adams
ENDER'S GAME by Orson Scott Card

Out and About

Ahh the mighty river...or is that the muddy river???
She's an old girl. *s*
I frequent this area on my lunch break. You can find me on the bench or the stairs in the summer.
Another favorite spot at lunch time. The building I work in is white with green windows back there.
The new Icon Tower finished recently. They are working on Tower number two now.
This is in downtown Edmonton if you can imagine!
Doesn't get much better than this!
Can't wait for the trees to fill in. *s*
Yes, this is the company I work for but this isn't my building. Mine is an old one beside it.
Love these stumps!
A very friendly critter came to say hi...and pillage for food!
I like this bag but at $70 I just can't justify it.
The new Gallery of Alberta being constructed.

These were just random shots taken with my cell phone over the past numerous weeks.
